Events

Every school year brings with it a range of exciting school events, from new Prep students starting, Grades 4-6 students heading off on camp, our Peppercorn BBQs (your chance to meet other parents), Meet the Teacher events, Mothers & Fathers Day activities, Lapathon and our whole school assemblies amongst others. All events will be promoted here, on Compass and in the newsletter (issued fortnightly).

Grade 5 Camp

The Year 5s will be attending an outdoor camp designed to build team skills including cooperation and communication, social responsibility, leadership skills and protecting the natural world. Students will have the opportunity to work together to achieve team goals.

Year 1 Zoo Excursion

As part of our current inquiry into ‘Sharing the Planet: Living Things Rely on their Habitats’, students will be participating in an excursion to Melbourne Zoo. Each class will also participate in a 40 minute ‘Habitats, Features and Life Cycles’ lesson presented by zoo staff.

Author Visit - Coral Vass

Author Visit - Coral Vass

Coral Vass is an award-winning children’s author, presenter, editor and reviewer. She has a background in Media, and this year marks her 20th published children’s book. Her books include Sorry Day 2018 (Speech Pathology Awards Book of the Year and 2019 CBCA Book of the Year - Eve Pownall Award), Grandma’s Treasured Shoes (2021 Caleb Book of the Year), and Jørn’s Magnificent Imagination (2023 CBCA Notable and shortlisted for 2023 Speech Pathology Book of the Year).

In celebration of Book Week, the Preps to Year 2s have the opportunity t meet Coral Vass.

Author Visit - Karen Ginane

Karen Ginane is an author for middle grade and young adult readers. Penguin Random House Australia published her debut novel, When Days Tilt, in July 2021 and published the sequel, When Souls Tear, in July 2022. These historical fantasy adventures, set in Victorian London and a parallel city, are part of the Time Catchers series. In celebration of Book Week, the Year 5 and 6s have the opportunity to meet Karen Ginane.

Author Visit - Zeno Sworder

Author and illustrator, Zeno Sworder is the winner of the Children’s Book Council of Australia Picture Book of the year for My Shrinking Parents. His previous book, This Small Blue Dot, also won multiple awards. For book week, students from Year 3 and 4 have the opportunity to meet him.

Our 100 Days of School celebration is fast approaching and we have planned many exciting events to take place on the day, including a pizza lunch catered by Buoy Pizza and a delicious Zooper Dooper icy pole. Students are encouraged to wear their own handmade t-shirt featuring the number 100, which they will showcase at Assembly!

We will be having our Mini Olympics day at Kew Primary to celebrate the start of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

Students will be able to dress up in country colours, sporting clothes or house colours for the day.

Year 1 students will be participating in a Science Incursion as a part of their ‘How the World Works’ Inquiry Unit. The central idea that they will be exploring is that ideas can be solved through innovation. By the end of the session, students will be able to understand the concepts of push, pull, friction, and gravity.
