As part of our current inquiry into ‘Sharing the Planet: Living Things Rely on their Habitats’, students will be participating in an excursion to Melbourne Zoo. Each class will also participate in a 40 minute ‘Habitats, Features and Life Cycles’ lesson presented by zoo staff.

There will be a live Book Week Performance presented to our Preps to Year 3s called “Maybe a Miracle” based on the CBCA theme “Reading is Magic”.

In celebration of French day we will be hosting a French magic show, and students will have the chance to practise their French by ordering a delicious crêpe afterwards.

Show off your Book Week costumes in this year’s parade outside the library! The theme is “Reading is Magic”.

Students should wear their house colours, bring a bag with food and drink for the day.

Coral Vass is an award-winning children’s author, presenter, editor and reviewer. She has a background in Media, and this year marks her 20th published children’s book. Her books include Sorry Day 2018 (Speech Pathology Awards Book of the Year and 2019 CBCA Book of the Year - Eve Pownall Award), Grandma’s Treasured Shoes (2021 Caleb Book of the Year), and Jørn’s Magnificent Imagination (2023 CBCA Notable and shortlisted for 2023 Speech Pathology Book of the Year).

Karen Ginane is an author for middle grade and young adult readers. Penguin Random House Australia published her debut novel, When Days Tilt, in July 2021 and published the sequel, When Souls Tear, in July 2022. These historical fantasy adventures, set in Victorian London and a parallel city, are part of the Time Catchers series. In celebration of Book Week, the Year 5 and 6s have the opportunity to meet Karen Ginane.

Author and illustrator, Zeno Sworder is the winner of the Children’s Book Council of Australia Picture Book of the year for My Shrinking Parents. His previous book, This Small Blue Dot, also won multiple awards. For book week, students from Year 3 and 4 have the opportunity to meet him.

A STEM Incursion where students are introduced to the world of forces and energy through hands-on exploration of circuits, magnets, gravity and much more! Students will be challenged to think critically and make predictions, observations using terminology, keywords and equipment.

The AMC is Australia’s most well-known and longest-running mathematics competition for students of all ages, offering a unique opportunity for participants to showcase their mathematical skills and problem-solving abilities. With a range of 30 questions, the AMC is an engaging way for students to test their problem-solving skills.

Students will use their eight and hearing to learn more about the properties of light and sound. This incursion is an introduction to our nest Inquiry unit, ‘Light and Sound are Vital to our world’.

Our 100 Days of School celebration is fast approaching and we have planned many exciting events to take place on the day, including a pizza lunch catered by Buoy Pizza and a delicious Zooper Dooper icy pole. Students are encouraged to wear their own handmade t-shirt featuring the number 100, which they will showcase at Assembly!

We will be having our Mini Olympics day at Kew Primary to celebrate the start of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

Students will be able to dress up in country colours, sporting clothes or house colours for the day.

We encourage families and community to come and support our students on what should be a fun and exciting event!

Students only attend during 3-way conferences.

The Sustainability Action Team has been invited to Kew High to participate in the Sustainability Summit 2024. There will be engaging and inspirational guest speakers from the enviro and sustainability sector, as well as activities for your students to get involved in for further learning, development, inspiration and, connection.

Year 4 will be visiting Melbourne Aquarium for a guided tour with the focus Ocean Kids: Conservation.

The Arts Action Team will take part on a guided Street Art Tour to explore how environmental and social issues are communicated through street art in the Melbourne CBD.

Year 1 students will be participating in a Science Incursion as a part of their ‘How the World Works’ Inquiry Unit. The central idea that they will be exploring is that ideas can be solved through innovation. By the end of the session, students will be able to understand the concepts of push, pull, friction, and gravity.

KPS is supporting FightMND by holding an even that will see 10 teachers and 10 students go head-to-head in an ice-bucket challenge. All proceeds will go directly to FightMND!

Students will be exploring the central idea that ‘Media uses a variety of strategies to influence thinking’. Through a variety of activities, students will research, brainstorm, script, and present their own live news stories.
